I Had A Dream
by Jane Morin

So it has been a while since I have written. I don’t do as much writing as I used to. Seems I am living out my life instead of journaling it these days.

Back in 2003 I began writing and journaling on a regular basis which took me to a new pathway of writing devotions and then eventually a book. Though I have received numerous inquiries to why my writing has diminished in the last couple of years, I can assure you of this, my love for Jesus and my passion to serve Him have only increased.

I have been spending a lot of time on trying to discover why a certain insidious state of apathy is overtaking the church as a whole. When we first moved to Southwest Texas it appeared that apathy was a norm of life here among many believers. In fact not only was there a lack of interest, but many self proclaimed believers would never be recognized as such unless they did profess to you openly. Why is that? Because their lifestyle comes nothing near the way of Christ or His commandments.

Shortly after moving here I had a dream. Those of you, who know me, know also I do not put a lot of merit into dreams. However, in this particular dream, or possible vision, I was in conversation with God.

I found myself flying way above this land and looking down and seeing a dry and desolate parched countryside. I have always been a (flyer) in my dreams. As I looked down I was wondering in my mind where this location was and immediately I heard God says, “This is Odessa.”  Then before I had time to completely absorb that thought He asked me, “Now, speak my Word.” As I obeyed and spoke His Word over the land, green life began to produce and grow up out of the hard surface. Trees came up and plants and grass began to take the place of what was once only a dry and dusty wasteland.

As I flew on I came again to a deadened drought area where dead twigs and dirt only remained. Once again I heard, “Speak my Word.” As before I obeyed the command and once again the barren land began to grow green and fertile life. Once again tall trees, and grass and flowers bean to overtake the wasteland and life was prominently ruling there.

Then as if God heard my thoughts of, “Why are you showing me this?” His voice intercepted my being with, “I have called you here to speak life into this desolate land. I have called you hear to speak life into dead situations.” Shortly afterward I awakened but was not groggy or sleepy as if I was asleep. I was wide awake and thinking all about what God had shown me.

I share this with you, because God has called each of us to speak life into the desolate land in front of us. Perhaps you minister to hurting people as I do, or you are an evangelist preaching the Words of Life to those dead in their transgressions. In the book of Ephesians our brother Paul says,

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins.”  Eph. 2:1

That passage goes on to say that even while we were dead in our transgressions, He made us alive together with Christ!

There was a day dear friend when someone spoke Words of Life to you and you no longer were dead, but eternal life began to overtake you. With that same grace that you received in hearing, you shall now go speak life to others.

As I look around this dry wasteland of apathy here in Southwest Texas, I am constantly reminded of what my purpose is. As a Chaplain for a Healthcare company, I hold the hand of a dying person almost daily. These people are terminal and have no hope of ever recovering. However, as God leads, I speak Word’s of life that don’t necessarily affect the body, but touch the soul and spirit of man. In that, I often receive a smile or a warm squeeze to my hand.

As God’s child, you shake many a hand of dying people as well. You greet them at the store, or in business or even church. These people are dying spiritually. Remember, you too have Words of Life to speak!
